Come Fly With Us!

If you live in Walnut Grove's Historic District and would like to participate in festival, just make or purchase your own Flying Pig, then get listed on the website map!

Make your own Flying Pig Lantern!

Paper Flying Pig Lantern

To make a flying pig out of a paper lantern, you'll need to: decorate a standard paper lantern with pig features by adding paper ears, a snout, curly tail, and legs using glue, then add a wire to the top of the lantern to hang it and make it appear to be "flying"; you can also paint details like eyes and pink coloring onto the lantern to enhance the pig look.

Gather materials: (Amazon, Walmart or Contact Us)

  • Round white paper lantern
  • Battery operated LED light
  • Pink or white construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Thin wire
  • Paint (for details)
  • Contact Us for materials

Create the pig features:

  • Ears: Cut two small, rounded triangle shapes from construction paper and fold them slightly at the base to create a floppy ear look.
  • Snout: Cut a small, rounded rectangle from construction paper and curve the bottom to create a snout shape.
  • Tail: Cut a long, thin strip of paper and curl it into a spiral to make a curly tail.
  • Legs: Cut four small, thin leg shapes from construction paper.

Add details:

  • Paint or color: Paint to add details like eyes, nostrils, and pink coloring to the pig face on the lantern.
  • Attach hanging string:
  • Secure wire: attach thin wire to the top of the lantern so it can be hung.
